The Bakery
The bakery is a sacred place. It's where simple ingredients - flour, water, yeast - are transformed through skill and patience into bread and pastries. There is nothing like the anticipation for freshly baked bread or a perfectly laminated croissant.
La Fillette, a French-inspired, from-scratch bakery, meticulously crafts croissants over a three-day journey from dough to flaky perfection. This commitment has cultivated a community of loyal regulars who find joy and solace in the bakery's offerings.
La Fillette rapidly outgrew its original location after surviving the challenges of the COVID pandemic. While owner and Pastry Chef, Keturah Fleming, looked for a new space, she was committed to staying in the neighborhood. “We’ve been here for seven years, and we love the neighborhood… so we tried to find a [new] place that was super close in the community.” Fleming reflects.
The bakery re-opened at the new location in April 2023 in the Montclair neighborhood at 14th and Krameria. The new space provides a beautiful outdoor patio, a spacious communal table, and ample indoor seating, allowing it to host up to 65 patrons. The relocation was met with overwhelming support and enthusiasm from the community. It was clear that the bakery had become more than a place to eat; it was a place of community and connection.
Fleming envisions the future of La Fillette as an “everyday brunch” location for those with non-traditional schedules, offering them a welcoming place to relax on their days off. In this corner of Denver, La Fillette stands not just as a bakery, but a testament to resilience, community, and the enduring appreciation of well-crafted food.
As this Advent season unfolds, we anticipate the arrival of Jesus, whose birthplace, Bethlehem, translates poetically to “House of Bread”. The bakery exists in sacred imagination as a place we wait in anticipation for the Bread of Life, who nourishes us and invites us into the Beloved Community. The bakery is a sacred place.
