Urban Farm

Gardening is an instrument of grace.
— May Sarton

An urban farm is a sacred place. The Table Urban Farm has been growing food in city gardens in Denver since 2012. Jeanine and Craig arrived in Denver in 2011, planning to plant a church in the Platt Park neighborhood. As they cultivated relationships with their neighbors, they began developing a vision for a spiritual community grown through urban gardens. Together they have cultivated new ways of growing and distributing food, while providing inspiration and education around gardening. Their work has been rooted in supporting people in their community through produce.

The Table Urban Farm has planted, grown, harvested, and delivered organic food from dozens of gardens. Because the urban gardens are located in neighborhoods, the gardens have become the soil in which relationships with neighbors have grown. “The garden is a level field,” Craig Broek shared, “Gardening has always been a communal effort.” Planting urban gardens have grown deep relationships with property owners and program volunteers. The produce generates a communal pride in what can be grown when neighbors work together.

The number and location of the urban gardens The Table plants and nurtures varies each year. They have planted urban gardens at Platt Park Church, personal homes, underutilized plots, and the local District 4 Police Station. What all the urban farms have in common is they are visible to the community, productive for producing organic food, and owned by an engaged individual who believes in how locally grown food can help create community. The Table donates and distributes 100% of the food and flowers. They do so through community food partners, the creative and inventive Veggie Bike, and now at The Table Public House.

The Table Public House opened in the Overland Park neighborhood in April 2021. A former VFW building, located on the South Platte River, was redeveloped into a beautiful destination to serve as a place of centralized operations and neighborhood connection. The Table Public House offers a unique gathering place in South Denver throughout the day with local coffees, teas, craft beer, wine, and cocktails. The Table Public House has a co-working space, café, comfortable couch area, and an indoor play space for children. 100% of the proceeds from the Public House support The Table Urban Farm.

The Table Urban Farm is a unique intersection where people are invited to “feed your body, feed your soul, and feed your community.” The urban farm is a sacred place.
