For Those Experiencing Incarceration

Remember those who are in prison, as though you were with them.
— Hebrews 13:3

We pray for those in prison
For their hearts, minds, and bodies.
May they trust their identity
Is not only a last name, a number, or statistic of the state.

May they trust they are known and loved
As Your daughter or son.

May those behind bars
Not only serve their time, but steward their time
By forgiving, healing, and growing.

May they find people of peace
Inside and outside the walls,
With both compassion and conviction.

May the innocent who are unjustly imprisoned
Be heard, be restored, and be free.

May the spouses, parents, siblings, and children
Of those imprisoned not have their hearts harden.
May they hold on to a hope beyond hope,
And trust You never leave them, forsake them, or forget them.

May You bring healing to the victims and wounded,
For those who have suffered the loss of innocence and the loss of life,
Grant the wholeness only Your grace can give.

May we remember the imprisoned
In places near and far from us.
May we be those who visit them,
And in so doing, visit You.

May we all –
Imprisoned and prison officers, victims and visitors,
Daughters and sons, mothers and fathers,
Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly.

Amen.
