Air Travel
Jesus,
You traveled many roads
And told stories of road travelers.
As we travel in the air,
May we be a good neighbor.
May we be attentive to the neighbor in the seat next to us,
Help us know when to greet them, and when to offer silence as our gift.
May we see Your image in the faces
Of fellow travelers and air travel workers.
May we acknowledge the multitudes that make air travel possible –
pilots and flight attendants, gate agents and security officers, baggage handlers and shuttle drivers, restaurant workers and retail associates, aircraft mechanics and air traffic controllers.
We ask for patience when we are frustrated
By interruptions and inconveniences.
May the distance we travel not lead to isolation,
But remain connected to You, ourselves, and others.
We pray for those who travel frequently
To not lose a sense of home and desire to be rooted.
May we retain a sense of wonder at the miraculous opportunity of flight,
Thank You for the ingenuity of the human mind and the craft of human hands.
May we travel the sky with gratitude and grace.
May we see air travel a way to follow You
And be a good neighbor.
Thank you to Steven Strott, J.R. Briggs, and Pat Riley for their contribution to this prayer.
