Two Wheels
I am carried gracefully
By these two wheels beneath me,
Through the day.
In the morning
I’m surrounded by people
Rushing in cars to their places.
I pray mercy will mark their day.
In the evening
I’m surrounded by people
Rushing back to where they began.
I pray this day was marked by love.
May Your mercy and love increase
In the people rushing by me,
And increase in me.
Bless all the people I am passing by on two wheels.
Thank you for these moments
While I’m pedaling,
To think,
To be quiet,
And to listen.
What are You’re saying to me right now,
Through this neighborhood?
Through the horizon in the distance?
Through the frustration of stoplights?
Thank you that this is uncomfortable.
Thank you for the wind in my face.
Thank you for the sweat in my eyes.
Thank you for my heart beating,
And pounding in my ears,
And powering my body,
Which powers this bike.
Thank you for the chill of winter cutting through my clothes,
Reminding me that I exist,
And that existing, right now, and for eternity,
As your beloved,
Is the ultimate blessing.
Thank You that I’m not alone.
As I’m carried gracefully,
On two wheels.
Amen.
