Actors & Theatre Makers

Creator God,

May those whose work is making theatre
Be seen as valuable and meaningful.
May we hold the art and skill of telling stories
An essential aspect of our society.

May the stories that unfold on stage
Cultivate empathy for others:
For suffering and solidarity in community,
For the brokenness and brilliance of humanity.

May the scripts and scenes
Teach us to focus our attention
On the life of another
Whose story is as sacred as our own.

May the audience’s applause
Be not only for the performance
But for the unseen hours of auditions and rehearsals,
Set building, ticketing, financing, and backstage support.

May those whose work is on stage
Be rooted in their identity as Your Beloved,
Not inflated by the audience applause,
Nor deflated by an audition rejection.

May the theatre be a holy place
Where performances invite us
To see every person and place
An invaluable line in the story of God.

Amen.

Thank you to Anna Rinehart and Caitlyn Kraemer for their conversations and contributions to this prayer.
