A blessing for Aging

As you find yourself slowing down,
Whether by age or aches,
By fewer life demands or simply by choice,
May you notice that your pace
Might now reflect the holy cadence of God.

As you feel your contributions have shifted,
In work, your family, or the Church,
May you trust in the economy of God’s Kingdom,
Where value lies in your being
Much more than your doing.

As you hold the weight of questions
Like purpose and meaning,
Whether yours, your children, or your children’s children,
May you be awed by the exponential power
Of millions of small acts done with great love.

In the softening light of this dusk
May you be bold enough
To claim the wisdom of your years.
May you be wise enough
To share what you are still learning.
May you be humble enough
To admit your faults and right your wrongs.
May you be gentle enough
To be delighted in what is today.
May you have eyes to see the miracle of this life,
And the beauty of your becoming.
