Food Availability
Father in Heaven,
May our prayer for food create a pause,
That enlarges our hearts through
Gratitude, confession, lament, and longing
For the availability of food for all.
May our prayer for food be sincere gratitude,
For all laborers who make our daily bread possible.
Thank you for the farmers, drivers, energy suppliers,
distributors, bakers, and grocers.
Every meal is the work of so many hands.
May our prayer for food be an honest confession,
For ways we forget and fail to care for our bodies and the land.
May we see both as sacred, and be good stewards
Of the gifts we have been given.
May our prayer for food be a humble lament,
For children who wake in our city with hunger,
For students where school is the primary place of nutrition,
And for families who live with anxiety concerning the next meal.
May our prayer for food be a holy longing,
Cultivate in us imagination and resilience
To labor together to see a city where neighbors share meals,
And every neighborhood has access to healthy food.
May our prayer for food form us in the Way of Jesus.
Each time our food is taken, blessed, broken, and given
May we share what we’ve been given,
And recognize You at our table.
