Produce
Father in Heaven,
Thank you for produce,
For the food from the ground,
Growing in it, on it, and above it.
Thank You for the way produce
Comes from a patient process
Of being planted and rooted.
May I give myself to the patient process
Of being planted and rooted
In the places I wake, walk, and work.
Thank You for how produce grows
From the complex combination
And careful attention
To both climate and care.
May the fruit of the earth
And the work of human hands
Be for me embodied wisdom
Of how life and faith grow.
Thank You for the array of flavors:
For the mild and blistering chilies,
For the tart and tannin citrus,
For the sweet and bitter greens.
May the spectrum of flavors I savor
In the vast variety of produce,
Be an invitation to behold the beauty
In the vast variety of people,
Who live and work in my neighborhood.
Thank you for produce,
Each plant offering its generous gifts,
Grace from the ground.
In them may I receive, taste, and see
That You are good.
Amen.
