Sidewalks
Father in Heaven,
King of all Creation -
May our sidewalks
Be safe paths for children
Who walk every day to learn,
And safe passage for children
Who are still learning to walk.
May our sidewalks
Be happy trails for dogs
Who know the hidden and holy scents
Buried deep within the dirt.
May our sidewalks
Be constantly colored with chalk
Words, flowers, and numbered squares
That remind us to never grow too old
For drawing and hopscotch.
May our sidewalks
Be familiar routes for spouses,
Parents, siblings, and friends -
Who hold hands, hold heartache,
And hold on to hope.
May our sidewalks be
Places where we return
To moving at Godspeed,
Walking at a pace
Where we learn to walk with You.
